You know, I don't think Fr. Hopkins would mind at all if we see things in his verses that he may never have intended, because the beauty of it is that he has given us so much to meditate on (as also in the verse about the Five Wounds) because everything is interwoven and touches us in a personal way. For instance, this verse has caused me also to reflect on the Harrowing of Hell, early on Easter Saturday morning. Before our Lord's resurrection [Our passion-plungèd giant risen] he descended into Hell [for the lingerer with a love glides/Lower than death and the dark] to release poor souls. Amen, Ann.
